Case study · Pacific Energy — storage and vapourisation packages

AMG supplied 370kL LNG site storage tanks together with vapourisation skids across the Abra, Coburn, Thunderbird and Pilbara Minerals operations — regasification delivered as an integrated package rather than standalone equipment.

Frequently asked questions

Ambient-air or forced-draught — which do I need?

Ambient-air vaporisers use no energy and have no moving parts, so they are the default where you have the footprint and the duty cycle allows the coils to recover between runs. Forced-draught units add a fan to sustain higher continuous throughput in a smaller footprint, or to hold output in cold or humid conditions where an ambient unit would ice up. Duty cycle and climate decide it.

What is a trim heater for?

It lifts the gas to the delivery temperature your downstream equipment requires when the vaporiser alone leaves it too cold — typically in winter, or at high turndown. Gas engines and turbines usually have a minimum inlet temperature specification that has to be met reliably.

Can regasification be supplied with storage?

Yes, and it commonly is. We have delivered 370kL LNG storage tanks complete with vapourisation skids for remote power generation.

How quickly can a package be deployed?

The skids are modular and factory-built, so site work is minimal — that is the main reason installation time and capital cost come down compared with a field-erected installation.

What is a peak-shaving station?

It stores gas as LNG during low-demand periods and regasifies it back into the network when demand peaks, so the network can meet peaks without being sized for them year-round.
