The extended bonnet moves the stem seal and packing away from the cold fluid, so they sit in a warmer gas column rather than at cryogenic temperature. Without it, the packing goes hard and brittle, the seal fails and the valve leaks. It is the defining feature of a genuine cryogenic valve as opposed to a standard valve used cold.

A fire-safe valve is tested to keep sealing within defined leakage limits during and after exposure to fire. On LNG and LPG service it prevents a valve becoming the path that feeds an escalating incident. It is available as a certified option across the range.
