
Pacific Energy builds and operates power stations for remote mining operations — sites hundreds of kilometres from the nearest gas pipeline, where the generation plant runs around the clock and a fuel interruption stops the mine. Moving those stations from diesel to LNG cuts cost and emissions, but it only works if the site can hold enough LNG to ride out supply-chain interruptions, and convert it to gas at whatever rate the engines demand.
That makes the site storage tank the critical asset. It has to be big enough to buffer road-train delivery cycles, thermally tight enough that boil-off does not erode the stored energy between deliveries, and robust enough to sit in remote conditions for decades with minimal attention.
AMG designed and delivered multiple 370kL LNG site storage tanks — among the largest factory-built vacuum-insulated LNG vessels supplied in Australia — complete with vapourisation skids that regasify the stored LNG for delivery to the power station at pipeline conditions.
Each tank is engineered for minimal heat transfer and extended hold time, so the energy delivered by road stays in the tank until the engines burn it. The vapourisation skids are factory-built, pre-tested modules: ambient-air units sized to site demand, integrated with the storage system and ready to tie in to the power station on arrival. Factory modularisation keeps on-site construction time short — a decisive advantage when the site is a fly-in fly-out mining operation.
Tanks are built to ASME VIII and AS 1210, with installations designed to AS 3961, and are telemetry-ready for remote monitoring of level, pressure and consumption.
